About Justin Lamar Washington

A Legacy of Light Shaped by a Servant’s Heart

Born and raised in the historic City of Charleston, South Carolina, Justin Lamar Washington was a whirlwind of energy from the start.

A child of rhythm and light from his earliest days, that kind of impact couldn’t be contained. His heart found its rhythm in music, a love that carried him through 35 years. Whether it was the literal pulse of a song or the metaphorical “Beats in My Heart,” Justin moved through the world with a tempo of kindness that others couldn’t help but follow.

He moved through life with a melody in his heart and a deep-seated love for those around him. Justin didn’t just live, he gave. He was a natural encourager, a man who possessed the rare gift of seeing the inherent good in every person he met. For Justin, music wasn’t just a hobby, it was a language. It was the way he processed the world and the way he connected with the people around him. He grew up surrounded by a community of love, and he carried that warmth within him so deeply that he became a natural wellspring of encouragement. Even when facing his own quiet struggles, the “beats” of his heart remained steady in their devotion to others, seeking out the good in every person he encountered.

Honor and Valor

Following high school, Justin Lamar answered the call to serve by enlisting in the United States Navy. Serving aboard the USS Wasp (LHD-1).

He brought his signature spirit of motivation to his fellow sailors.  Justin demonstrated the same dedication to his country that he showed to his friends. His service was marked by distinction, earning him several commendations, including:

The Defense Service Medal
The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal
The Navy Good Conduct Medal

See Me Differently

Justin Lamar was a man of many layers.

To the world, he was the decorated veteran, the “life of the party,” and the selfless neighbor who ensured no one went hungry, the friend who always had the right words to lift a spirit, and the soul who carried love as his primary compass.

But Justin also lived with the weight of inner battles or the complex “wars of the mind” that many veterans and kind souls navigate in silence. Though Justin fought his own private battles of the mind, he never let his personal shadows dim the light he provided for others. His unexpected death in 2024 left a void across many states, but his mission of motivation and genuine kindness continues to ripple outward through all who knew him.

To truly honor Justin Lamar is to “See Me Differently” by recognizing that a person can be a source of immense light for others while walking through their own shadows.

His life teaches us that vulnerability and strength are not opposites; they are parts of the same courageous heart, the same compassionate soul.
